At least five people were killed after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia early today.
As per reports from local government officials, the incident gave rise to the issuance of tsunami alerts across the country on Saturday morning.
The governor of East Nusa Tenggara Province explained during a press conference that at least five people were killed and dozens injured. The figures are feared to rise as the rescue operation continues to help find those missing and rescue those buried under rubble.
More reports spoke about how those victims killed were said to be asleep and died as a result of collapsing rubble. Search and rescue teams are working to free anyone trapped inside buildings damaged by the quake and dozens of aftershocks which arose afterward.
The quake reportedly had a depth of 15km and several buildings were damaged by the quake, with dozens of aftershocks that soon followed.
