Jealous aunt drowns niece, 6, at wedding because child ‘looked prettier than her’

Tragic reports are speaking about a woman who was recently accused of drowning her six-year-old niece during a wedding.

According to local media outlets, the incident reportedly took place in northern India, where the accused was an aunt who got jealous of a young child who was her actual niece. This was at a wedding celebratory event that arose due to the fact that the child appeared prettier than her, leaving her furious.

The accused has been identified as Poonam, who drowned the young girl in a tub filled with water after her loved ones gathered for the ceremony held in Panipat on Monday.

The victim was identified as Vidhi, who attended the ceremony with her dad, mother, 10-year-old brother, and grandmother.

Vidhi’s father is reportedly said to have gotten a phone call during the celebrations, informing him about his daughter going missing. This gave rise to an immediate search party for the victim.

After just one hour, the grandmother found her dead inside a nearby storeroom with her head submerged in the water. She was then rushed to a nearby hospital, but was soon pronounced dead by the doctors over there.

Police rushed to arrest the aunt after the tragedy, who later confessed to the senseless and tragic killing of her paternal niece.
