Tragic reports have confirmed a very violent mid-air collision between a Cessna 150 single-engine airplane and a Pennsylvania State Police Bell 407 helicopter near Carlisle Airport in Cumberland County.

The tragedy has left one person dead and two state troopers injured.
The pilot of the plane was the sole occupant on board, and he ended up dead at the scene. Two State Police aviation unit pilots were aboard the Bell 407 helicopter and suffered injuries. Both were rushed to Hershey Medical Center and are expected to recover.

State police were carrying out routine training exercises near the airport's runway when the approaching Cessna veered right in an attempt to avoid a collision.
