A historic preservation group, called the National Trust for Historic Preservation, has decided to sue the Trump administration's plan to design a new ballroom on the site where the White House's East Wing was demolished in the previous year.
They keep arguing about how the project should have gotten congressional approval and gone through standard federal reviews before it was torn down, and the construction had begun.
Inside the courtroom, the US District Judge Richard Leon shared how he was so skeptical about the administration's legal defense. He even questioned whether the president had the authority to demolish and rebuild parts of the White House using private funds without any kind of explicit authorization from Congress. And this includes the manner in which the project is getting financed circumvents oversight.
For now, the judge indicated that he would not immediately put a halt to construction. He shared how preservationsits did not show that immediate irreparable harm would take place if work were carried on.
