The picturesque Italian village of Varenna, which is present on the eastern shore of Lake Como, has officially implemented a strict dress code.
Tourists caught walking through the historic streets, shops, restaurants, or public squares with bare chests or wearing only swimwear face major fines ranging from 50 to 200 Euros. This restriction does not apply to places like beaches, piers, or boat docks. As expected, such places require swimwear, and that's why it remains totally acceptable.
Alongside the dress code, Varenna has capped tour group sizes to 25 people and completely banned tour guides from using loudspeakers or any form of voice amplification.
Group tour paths are also restricted to prevent narrow walkways from getting blocked. Mayor Mauro Manzoni stated that such regulations protect the quality of life for the town's 650 permanent residents.
