Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar was recently attacked during a town hall meeting yesterday by a male present in the audience who sprayed an unknown substance at her using a syringe.
The incident arose while she was making a speech to constituents about immigration policy and calling for the abolishment of ICE officers as well as the resignation of the Department of Homeland Security Secretary.
The assailant reportedly approached her from the front row and released a liquid that some witnesses described as very strongly smelling.
This is right before security personnel were seen tackling him to the ground and restraining him. The crowd could be seen reacting with absolute shock.
Several people were heard urging Omar to get immediate medical attention, but she remained physically unharmed during this time.
Police went on to identify the attacker as a 55-year-old man who was immediately arrested and charged with third-degree assault. Forensic teams were also called to examine the scene and the substance that was sprayed.
