A tragedy has left dozens of people dead after a ferry carrying 133 people sank.
Authorities were seen rushing after the tragic news broke out, in hopes of finding survivors.
The Guyanese government ferry MV Barima capsized and sank off the North Atlantic Coast of Guyana on July 18. This vessel was believed to be carrying 116 passengers and 17 crew members. It was reportedly en route from the capital city, Georgetown, to Port Kaituma when it issued a distress signal at about 11 pm.
Guyanese authorities and local emergency responders have mounted a massive search and rescue operation to find the dozens still missing at sea. A total of 67 people, including 15 kids, were reportedly pulled to safety.
However, 66 people remain officially uncounted for, and the total number on board remains uncertain due to discrepancies in the passenger manifest. Officials claim that the aging vessel was hit powerfully by a large wave, causing it to flip over as investigations continue.
