White House Locked Down After Nearby Gunshots, 2 People Wounded in Encounter with Secret Service

Two people were wounded in an encounter with Secret Service agents near the White House, and authorities claim the grounds were then immediately put on lockdown.

The incident took place on Saturday, where two people were injured following an incident near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street Northwest, located just outside the White House complex, according to a law enforcement official.

The Secret Service also confirmed more about the matter in a statement shared through social media.

'We are aware of reports of shots fired near 17th street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW and are working to corroborate the information with personnel on the ground'- the Secret Service Office of Communications wrote.

CBS News reports that a suspect started shooting at a security booth outside the White House where the US Secret Service officers were on guard inside, citing sources familiar with this matter.
