President Donald Trump was seen demanding a huge sum of money, $152 million to be exact, for the reopening of his Alcatraz Island.
This is the name given to the modern federal prison, which he wants Congress to approve funding for, so planning of the project could begin as per a proposed 2027 budget request.

This proposal calls for converting the former maximum security prison into a state-of-the-art federal facility. Alcatraz is currently a national park service tourist attraction that draws nearly one million visitors every year.

While Congress does not need to say yes to this request, it does signify renewed federal interest in reviving the long-closed prison. This decision would raise major questions regarding cost, feasibility, and the future of one of California's most iconic landmarks.
