Three friends of Nolan Wells are threatening legal action against “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin over comments she made while discussing the teenager’s death and the investigation surrounding it.
Attorneys for Warren Hudson, Jax Pitalo and Morgan Seymour sent Hostin a pre-suit demand letter on September 16, accusing her of making false and defamatory statements about the three men. The letter reportedly gives Hostin 10 days to retract the comments, delete them and issue an apology before the friends pursue litigation.
The dispute stems from comments Hostin made during a July episode of “Behind the Table with The View” and a related televised segment. According to the lawyers, Hostin questioned the circumstances surrounding Wells’ death and raised concerns about why the three friends had not been separately interviewed by police. She also suggested that they had retained Wells’ phone.
The friends’ attorneys strongly deny those suggestions. They say the men cooperated with authorities, provided information and did not possess or tamper with Wells’ phone or other evidence. The lawyers argue that Hostin’s remarks unfairly connected the three men to possible wrongdoing.
The legal dispute comes as questions about Wells’ death continue to draw public attention. The 18-year-old was found dead after going missing during a July 4 boating trip near Horn Island, Mississippi. Authorities have preliminarily treated the death as a drowning, while the official autopsy results remain pending.
Hostin has not, in the reporting reviewed here, been shown to have been sued yet. The letter is a pre-suit demand, meaning the friends’ attorneys are giving her an opportunity to retract the statements before filing a lawsuit.
The three friends have also been involved in an increasingly public legal battle over comments surrounding Wells’ death. Their attorneys previously sent a similar notice to Rev. Al Sharpton, who has also faced criticism from people defending the friends.
For now, the dispute remains at the threat-of-litigation stage. The allegations against Hostin are claims made by the friends’ attorneys and have not been established as facts in court, while the broader circumstances surrounding Wells’ death continue to be investigated.
