Patrick Clancy has opened up about his grief and the decision to forgive his ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy, after she killed their three young children in 2023.
In his first televised interview since the tragedy, Patrick spoke with CBS’ “60 Minutes” about losing Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old. The interview aired on Sept. 20, just weeks after Lindsay’s murder trial ended in a mistrial.
Patrick recalled the heartbreaking days after the children were found. Callan survived for four days after being hospitalized, giving Patrick a brief period of hope that at least one of his children might survive.
Patrick said he was able to hold his youngest son and lie beside him during his final moments. “He died in my arms,” he recalled.
He also explained why he eventually chose to forgive Lindsay. Patrick said he believed her actions were connected to the severe mental illness she was experiencing at the time, rather than viewing her simply as a monster.
He said that if he could not reach a point of forgiveness, he feared the anger would consume him.
When asked whether Lindsay had ever asked him for forgiveness, Patrick said she had not. “But I gave it to her,” he said.
Lindsay’s trial ended in a mistrial earlier this month after jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict. Prosecutors have not announced whether she will face another trial.
