Newlywed Bride Suddenly Bursts Into Flames During Honeymoon Barbecue as 4 People Are Arrested

A honeymoon in India took a horrifying turn when a newlywed bride was engulfed in flames during a barbecue at a homestay.

The incident happened on Sept. 19 and was captured on CCTV. The video reportedly shows the newlywed couple sitting on a balcony while a man appeared to be tending to the barbecue. Moments later, a fiery explosion occurred and the woman suddenly caught fire.

The bride, identified by Nikita Saha, suffered burns to about 60% of her body and remains in critical condition at a hospital, citing The Telegraph India and The Hindu. Her husband, Souvik Das, was also injured but was later released from the hospital.

Das told The Telegraph that the couple had been married for about two months and had planned to spend one night at the homestay. He said they asked staff to prepare a barbecue for them.

According to his account, one staff member had been adding a liquid to the fire before leaving. Another employee then took over, but Das said the worker appeared inexperienced. He alleged that the employee poured the liquid onto the barbecue, causing the fire to flare up, before the container was thrown toward his wife.

Police said kerosene was allegedly poured into the grill instead of cooking oil. Four people, including the homestay owner and staff members, have been arrested as authorities investigate what happened.

Police have said the roles of those arrested are still being examined, and the investigation remains ongoing.
