Bruce Blakeman has admitted that it is still a little surreal seeing his former wife married to one of the most famous musicians in the world.
Blakeman, a Republican candidate for New York governor, was married to Nancy Shevell for 23 years. Shevell later married Beatles legend Paul McCartney in 2011.
Speaking on an NY1 podcast, Blakeman said the situation is unusual, but he has no hard feelings toward McCartney. In fact, he had positive things to say about the rock star, especially when it comes to his relationship with Blakeman’s son, Arlen.
“He’s my son’s stepfather and he treats my son very nicely,” Blakeman said, describing McCartney as “a nice guy.”
There is, however, one subject the two men stay away from: politics.
Blakeman is a supporter of President Donald Trump, while McCartney has publicly criticized Trump. Their political views are very different, but Blakeman said they simply do not discuss politics when they are around each other.
Blakeman also spoke warmly about his former marriage to Shevell, saying they had a wonderful child together and that he wishes her well.
Shevell and McCartney have now been married for more than a decade, while Blakeman has since remarried. He said he is happy with his current wife and family, including his two stepchildren and three grandchildren.
Despite the unusual connection, Blakeman appears to have made peace with the fact that his former wife’s husband just happens to be a Beatle.
