Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old Black student-athlete, died, raising major questions about how he died.
His parents are demanding that authorities investigate how he, out of all of his friends, was not able to make it back alive after attending a Fourth of July party in Mississippi.
Wells' loved ones have contested some of the accounts of the teen's friends and the thoroughness of the officials who first said they did not suspect foul play and that he might have drowned near Horn Island in waters known for rip tides.
With few solid replies, speculations keep growing strong about how it dominated much of the online discourse. In the weeks since his death, the parents refuse to listen to his friends' excuse that Nolan stayed on the island and didn't wish to come back on the boat because he wanted to spend more time with a girl. They found that out of character and also weird that he didn't have access to his phone.
The mother also spoke to the girl, who said that it was just a hey and bye type of situation.
