German police have confirmed that a 29-year-old male passenger invoked Sharia law to avoid being seated next to a female on a flight from Turkey to Dusseldorf, and subsequently slapped a flight attendant who confronted him.
The conflict arose on a flight arriving at Düsseldorf Airport from Turkey.
This is where a 29-year-old Turkish migrant living in Germany refused his assigned seat. As per the police statement given to German media outlets, the passenger cited Islamic religious law to justify his refusal to sit next to a female traveler.
When the female flight attendant intervened to address this situation, the passenger reportedly slapped her across the face. Federal police soon boarded the aircraft immediately upon landing in Germany. While the suspect did confess to the physical altercation, he lobbed verbal insults at the responding officers in Turkish.
