Federal health agencies have officially confirmed a link between the explosive cases of diarrhea and shredded iceberg lettuce found in Taco Bell locations across the country.
While five states have been identified so far, officials have urged citizens to avoid the popular American fast food chain franchise during this troubling time.
The CDC shared more about how the FDA has rolled out more health warnings on this front and traced the source of the regional outbreak to a single lettuce supplier.
The outbreak arises from a foodborne microscopic parasite called Cyclospora that tends to trigger an intestinal illness. This gives rise to the condition of cyclosporiasis. The infection then goes on to give a serious watery or explosive episode of diarrhea, where symptoms peak a week after consumption.
So far, the affected states outlined include Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, and West Virginia.
