Instructor Charged After 23-Year-Old Scuba Diver Vanishes 65 Feet Underwater

A criminal investigation has been launched against a 26-year-old diving instructor named Thiago Nahuel Pocovi, who now faces serious manslaughter charges after the death of a student under his supervision.

The victim was a 23-year-old woman who was taking part in a dive to advance her scuba certification alongside her partner and other divers. Sources mentioned how Devries vanished while diving in the Golfo Nuevo, which is a famous diving location near the Punta Cuevas Historical Park in the Chubut province of Argentina.

The group was said to be exploring the Hu Shun Yu 809 artificial reef, which is a famous fishing vessel that was purposefully sunk in 2017.

Following the rescue mission by the Naval Prefecture, Devries' body was found two days later, resting nearly 65 feet underwater near the area where she was last seen. The family recently opened up a criminal investigation after alleging that the instructor took the group of seven divers and ended up violating professional safety protocols and regulations.
