A flight of Air Canada was forced to make an emergency landing in Boston after the captain's health severely deteriorated, causing the plane to swerve.
Horrified passengers shared more details about how the first officer rushed in successfully and assumed control of the plane while flight attendants and passengers worked together to help manage the captain.
The Air Canada Flight AC7664 was operated by regional partner PAL Airlines, with the plane being outlined as a De Havilland Q400. The route was said to be from Newark, New Jersey to Halifax, Nova Scotia. A total of 61 passengers were on board at the time as the plane was swiftly diverted to Boston's Logan International Airport.
As per passenger accounts that were shared with local media outlets, the emergency unfolded nearly 30 minutes post-takeoff, with many describing the plane unexpectedly lurching and taking a sharp left turn, followed by a right. This was similar to the maneuver that copies the jolt to the controls, instead of normal turbulence. This led to crew members rushing to check on the captain, noting an emergency. They pulled him out of the cockpit and put him in the cabin aisle.
Some described the matter as a seizure, as he was physically out of control, kicking, and flailing with massive force. Upon landing, paramedics were waiting on the runway to rush him to a nearby hospital.
