A major railway incident has taken place in central Poland today when two passenger trains collided near the village of Bialosliwie in the Greater Poland Voivodeship.
Sources from local media outlets shared more about how a Polish regional train was traveling between Pila and Bydgoszcz, and that's when it reportedly hit the rear end of a PKP intercity train on the Bialogard-Warsaw route.
The major impact resulted in three carriages of the intercity train and a part of the regional train to derail, also giving rise to major damage to the surrounding railway infrastructure and switch points. Nearly 200 passengers were said to be on board the two services at the time of the collision.
Emergency response teams included more than 10 fire and rescue units, railway tech services, and medics who swiftly arrived at the scene to carry out triage and evacuate passengers on buses. Three people reportedly received emergency medical assistance directly at the scene of the accident.
On the other hand, five people were rushed to a nearby hospital for further examination, but no fatalities have been reported so far. Right after the tragedy, train traffic on the affected railway was totally suspended to enable tech teams to evaluate track damage and investigate the matter in detail.
