A major catastrophic double earthquake was seen striking Venezuela's north-central region on Wednesday evening.
The incident reportedly left a trail of shocking and unprecedented destruction with two back-to-back earthquakes hitting the region. Both quakes were less than one minute apart from each other, violently impacting the capital city of Caracas and its surrounding area.
The country's president confirmed that at least 164 individuals were killed and nearly 1000 more were injured, but officials did warn how the numbers were expected to rise in a dramatic manner, with fears that they could go up to 100k.
Dozens of residential and commercial structures were seen falling down, including many hotels in the city, while huge neighborhood buildings were also flattened, leaving thousands homeless. The US Geological Survey gave a grim prediction of how fatalities could range between 10k and 100k, due to unreinforced brick housing structures.
