A tactical maneuver by the cops has ended up backfiring in the high-stakes kidnapping case linked to Nancy Guthrie.

According to reports from local media outlets, the effort to track down the perpetrators on this blockchain was done by rolling out $152 as a bitcoin test deposit towards the kidnapper's designated ransom wallet. Instead of giving a digital breadcrumb trail, this small transaction is what made the kidnappers more wary about their next move. This served as an accidental warning to them to go underground, as they feared getting caught.

The kidnappers swiftly recognized how this was an investigative tactic and therefore chose to freeze all activity and go undercover. The wallet's funds are still untouched, and the actual $6 million Bitcoin ransom demand hit a standstill.
