Shocking reports are coming out of Europe where a powerful heat dome took center stage, fueled by hot air arriving from the Sahara Desert.
As a result, the trapped extreme heat across Western and Central Europe shattered records and began putting a major strain on infrastructure.
At least 18 people were killed, including two kids who were found inside a car, not to mention several incidents reported of drownings due to the heat. France was quick to roll out a red alert advisory for 54 departments as temperatures soared to 42 degrees celcius in the southwest region.
Meanwhile, the Met Office in the UK has also rolled out a red extreme heat warning. They have predicted a record-breaking temperature for June that would go up to 39 degrees centigrade in both England and Wales. Germany was also recording several swimming-related deaths amid the sudden spike in heat. Countries like Spain also recorded their first heatwave of this season, and is expected to have weather that hit a high of 44 degrees centigrade.
