Three teenagers were among the victims who tragically died after a vehicle carrying nine passengers fell into Italy's Villoresi Canal, which is located in Senago near Milan.
The 19-year-old driver was immediately arrested, and authorities confirmed that a test revealed positive for alcohol. The driver was immediately taken into police custody and is now being investigated for aggravated homicide by a vehicle.
Among those killed were two 17-year-old boys who were present inside the Audi that was submerged. A 17-year-old girl was also found alive at the time of the crash, but soon died while on her way to the hospital.
The remaining six people were said to be between the ages of 17 and 19. They were also transported to a nearby hospital after suffering injuries, but doctors described their injuries as non-life-threatening.
Emergency services, including police and firefighters, rushed to the scene after hearing about the incident. Specialized divers recovered the bodies from the water and used specialized machinery to remove the wreckage of the vehicle involved in the crash.
Investigations are taking place to determine more details linked to the crash, including the car's speed and autopsies of those involved.
