The family of Leah Stewart, a 34-year-old mother and primary school teacher, has broken their silence, following a devastating shark attack at Sydney's Coogee Beach.

Stewart was swimming close to the shore when she was mauled by a suspected 3.5-meter great white shark. An off-duty lifeguard rushed into the bloodied water to pull her unconscious body onto his board. She did suffer from extreme loss of blood, serious lacerations, and fractures on her body.

At the hospital, she's said to be fighting for her life and remains on life support inside the ICU. Her brother shared the family's shock and grief over the terrifying and horrifying circumstances. Leah was said to be an experienced ocean swimmer who did all the right things, and that's why many are so confused how could this have happened?
