Tragic reports have spoken about a major incident that was declared in eastern England after a Luton Airport Express service train ran into the back of a stationary East Midlands Railway train on Friday evening.
The collision arose south of Bedford at about 5:15 pm local time as the trains were said to be making their way southbound towards London St. Pancras station. Reports shared more about how the first train stopped to address some kind of mechanical fault when the rear train collided with it.
The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed more about how one person passed away and 89 more were seriously injured. The person who tragically died was soon identified as the driver of the colliding train. Among those injured, 11 sustained very serious injuries, 22 were seriously injured, and 56 suffered minor injuries.
A huge emergency response was soon deployed to the rural crash site, including over 20 ground ambulances, six air ambulances, and specialized Hazardous Area Response Teams. Some passengers were found on the floor of the train, covered in blood as air ambulances were seen rushing to the area.
