Tragic reports have confirmed the death of a three year old boy who passed away in a family pool, despite wearing a life vest.
The incident arose due to a crucial step being missed, as per local media outlets, and that's why authorities are now highlighting the issue for other parents during the summertime, as that's when most such incidents arise.
The incident took place in Georgia, where the three-year-old drowned only because the final step of fastening the crotch strap of his life vest was not performed. Without this lower strap secured between the legs, the toddler's tiny frame could easily slip down upon hitting the water. This caused the floatation device to ride up over their chin and face, leading to quick submersion in no time.
Authorities also warned that making sure the life jacket matches the child's current weight is another step to success, as is the upward pull test to see if the vest raises up past the child's ears. And if that's the case, it's too big or too loose.
