A teenage tourist from India who was reportedly thrown to his death from Central Park after jumping from a runaway horse-drawn carriage in a desperate attempt to save his death was said to be saving his own mother.
The terrifying tragedy unfolded on Wednesday during the Mahajan family's first-ever vacation in New York City. The trip was meant to celebrate Romanch's recent admission to Manipal University.
The family was believed to be taking a carriage ride when the driver stepped back to take a picture of them. Leaving the carriage unattended was a clear violation of serious industry safety regulations.
Left unconstrained, the 7-year-old carriage horse named Sampson suddenly bolted. The horse was seen galloping out of control near Cherry Hill, running onto sidewalks and grassy areas while the driver unsuccessfully chased it.
As the carriage lurched in a violent manner, the victim's mother was thrown from the vehicle to the ground. Seeing his mom on the floor, the victim jumped out from the speeding carriage to try and assist her while yelling, 'Mom!
Romanch hit his head on the pavement in a serious manner during this jump. He was soon rushed to the nearby New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in a serious condition, but soon died.
