A 9-year-old girl was shot dead by the police after they opened fire on a car in which her family was traveling.
According to reports from local media outlets, the vehicle was mistaken for jewel robbers, which led to the innocent loss of life of a young Australian girl named Hania Ahmed. The incident reportedly took place in Chakwal, Pakistan, after officers mistakenly identified the wrong car, which was said to be a rental vehicle, instead of a getaway car for armed thieves.
Hania and her 11-year-old brother and father, who were dual Australian-Pakistani nationals, were all present, as was their mother, who was reported injured at the time. The family had just traveled from Saudi Arabia after performing the holy pilgrimage of Hajj. They were said to meet relatives, but nobody knew that fate had other plans.
An investigation has been launched into the devastating incident.
