6th-grader chokes to death in NY school during apparent TikTok challenge

A 12-year-old sixth-grade student named Jacob Medina tragically choked to death at a New York school on Wednesday, amid ongoing police investigations into whether a viral One Bite TikTok challenge played a role.

The tragedy arose on the fourth floor of the hallway of the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School in Yonkers, New York. This medical emergency arose at about 11:30 am during a transitional period between classes. Officials were seen reporting about how the student started to choke on a donut and subsequently became unresponsive.

School nurses, staff, and adults were seen rushing to administer CPR and lifesaving measures. He was then transported to St. Joseph's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Law enforcement is currently probing this case to determine if the boy was participating in the viral One Bite social media challenge, which encourages people to shove as much food into their mouths as possible to consume it in a single bite.
