A massive manhunt is underway in South Africa after a group of more than 10 heavily armed suspects carried out a coordinated mass shooting that killed 12 people and injured nine more. The attack occurred late on Tuesday night, at the Jumpers informal settlement in Cleveland, which is an eastern suburb of Johannesburg.
As per statements from the South African Police Service, the gunmen were dropped off by a white Toyota Quantum minibus taxi near a local petrol station at about 11 pm. The attackers split into smaller groups and entered the Jumpers settlement through both its main access points.
They moved in a systematic manner through the area and opened fire in all directions on residents at several locations in the community. The suspects managed to flee the scene together in the same white minibus taxi.
12 people were reported killed, which included nine men and three women. Investigations are still taking place to determine the cause behind this barbaric act.
