At least 32 people were killed, and more than 200 others were injured after a massive magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the southern coast of Mindanao in the Philippines.
The quake triggered localized tsunami warnings, widespread structural damage, and deadly landslides in the area. The epicenter was nearly 20km off the coast of Sarangani province. Heavy impacts and building collapses were widespread in the coastal city of General Santos, which is home to nearly 700k people, taking some major hits.
Of the 32 reported deaths, 13 villagers died in a landslide that buried homes in the mountainous regions of Glan, Sarangani. Seven deaths were reported in the General Santos area alone, while several small buildings and a restaurant collapsed.
