The family of James Weston Higginbothan, the 20-year-old American college student who was found dead after disappearing during a family vacation in Japan, is now speaking out about their loss.
Weston's mother, Nancy Higginbotham, shared more about the death of her son on Saturday, after the junior from Auburn University's remains were located by a volunteer search group outside Kyoto.
The family says that the grief they feel is impossible to put into direct words. The mother also shared her gratitude to all those praying and offering any kind of assistance to the family during this very difficult time. "We cannot begin to imagine what life would be without him," the post continued.
The cause of death is yet to be revealed publicly as investigations are taking place. Nancy mentioned how it's not yet known if her son got back on the train, but the family believed Weston might have gone on a hiking trail from Yamashina. His last phone activity occurred that evening. The family feared that he might have been emotionally distressed as he left the home after having an argument about ChatGPT.
