Truck driver crashes into 23 cars and injures 37 people in huge pile-up after falling sleep at the wheel

A truck driver fell asleep behind the wheel, causing a massive multi-vehicle pile-up in Antibes, France.

Sources from local media outlets shared more about how he smashed into 23 cars and injured 37 people. The major traffic accident occurred near Monaco on a busy stretch of road in the south of France.

As per investigators, the driver of the heavy goods vehicle fell asleep while he was driving down a sloped roadway. Because the driver was completely unresponsive, this truck bolted down the incline without applying its brakes and ploughed directly into dense traffic. This caused serious damage to more than 20 cars.

37 people sustained serious injuries from the initial impact and subsequent chain reaction collisions. Driver fatigue leading to the operator falling completely asleep behind the wheel is discussed as the main factor, but investigations are still taking place.
