A massive wildfire was seen engulfing the holiday hotspot of Los Garres in Murcia, Spain.
As a result of this huge blaze, authorities were forced to issue an emergency evacuation of nearly 100 residents, and threatened homes near the popular Costa Blanca holiday destination. The blaze, which arose today, generated flames of up to 65 feet high and tore through the El Valle Carrasco regional park.
As of June 3, coordinated firefighting efforts and shifting weather conditions have successfully allowed emergency crews to bring this 177-hectare fire under control, and all evacuated residents were cleared to return home.
The park is situated nearly 45 minutes from the southern tourist hubs of the Costa Blanca. Nearly 100 people were swiftly evacuated, and some were reported as suffering burn injuries, but no life-threatening cases have been brought to light so far. The fire forced the country's officials to activate level 2, which means a serious threat to life and property. Investigations are still taking place to determine the cause.
