A major explosion and a huge fire at an apartment building in Dallas have resulted in the death of at least three people, including a child.
The incident arose after a blast took place that shook nearby residences and happened while firefighters were busy rushing to a reported gas leak, as confirmed by officials.
At least five people were also transported to nearby hospitals with serious injuries, as confirmed by a rep for the Dallas Fire Department. It's still unclear how many residents lived in the two-story complex in the Oak Cliff neighborhood, south of downtown Dallas. Witnesses claim that they saw a towering plume of black smoke rise that was visible for miles.
The fire chief did not rule out the possibility that there could be more victims if the crews searched through the charred remains of the building. The size of the fire has been called out as enormous.
