Fire at Boarding School KILLS 15 students as rescuers search charred dorms

At least 16 students have passed away in a fire that tore through a girls' boarding school in central Kenya on Thursday morning.

The fire arose at about 1 am at a dormitory of the Utumishi Girls School in Nakuru County and swiftly spread across those halls, as per the police.

Gilgil police said at least 74 students had also been injured in the incident and that this blaze had been contained. Firefighters and police officers had fanned out to control the fire and evacuate other students, as per local reports.

So far, the cause of the blaze is yet to be established.

'It's distressing and also such a saddening situation'- a police official shared while addressing distraught parents outside the school.

Parents, who were woken up by the tragic news, have started arriving since 5 am local time from across the country.
