The death toll from an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to rise, as confirmed by government sources.
Since the start of this outbreak, 867 suspected cases have been reported, including 204 deaths, as shared by the government. That is nearly 100 infections and just over 30 deaths more than the previous day.
So far, 91 infections have been confirmed in lab tests, and 10 of them have been declared fatal. In neighboring Uganda, five confirmed cases have so far been reported in regard to this outbreak in eastern Congo.
Uganda does not publish figures for suspected cases. Authorities did urge how the number of cases is much higher than reported.
Meanwhile, the WHO has raised the alarm from high to very high for this virus as a sub-strain continues to wreak havoc in leading African countries, with a high risk of being transmitted in these areas.
Clusters of unexplained deaths have been noticed in the recent past that were mostly related to the same virus.
