Authorities are investigating after a concert at Black Bike Week in Atlantic Beach, South Carolina, descended into chaos on Saturday night, resulting in multiple injuries that sent people to the hospital, as per local reports.
The yearly Memorial Day weekend event, which draws in thousands of bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts, turned into a scene of chaos with several people injured after an apparent argument that led to a major stampede.
While nearly 19 people were taken to a hospital in ambulances, earlier reports and rumors spread online of mass casualties were declared as false, the police confirmed.
Fights erupted during a concert that was taking place on Saturday night into early Sunday, causing the crowd to panic.
Law enforcement said fights had broken out, but they believe the agitators ended up running away and disappearing in the crowd. Those hospitalized included those who had been trampled, dehydrated, or had heat exhaustion.
