A top medical officer at Camp Mystic is under the radar after reports confirmed how she evacuated herself and her children and did not contact staff as a deadly Texas flood hit last summer, official documents revealed.
Mary Elizabeth Eastland, who is the chief health officer at the all-girls Christian camp, ended up abandoning campers and her colleagues when water from the Guadalupe River started to flood the whole campsite in the early morning hours, as per an order from the Texas Board of Nursing.
The incident was described as one of the biggest horrors of the flood that ravaged Kerr County, and 25 campers and two teen counselors were killed in the process. This order, entered Tuesday, is temporary, and it suspended Eastland's nursing license, listing what the board found to be a complete violation during her time at Camp Mystic.
Eastland's attorney has claimed that his client denies all the allegations against her.
