Rescue workers were seen swimming through flooded buildings and using inflatable boats to pull people from the roofs and treetops in China.
The news comes after authorities had warned about a fresh wave of heavy rain bearing down on already waterlogged areas in the provinces.
At least 24 people have been killed since torrential rains started sweeping southern and central China, with up to 12 people reported on Tuesday.
Several others continue to remain missing across Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou provinces.
In the central province of Hubei, emergency and military personnel were seen wading through chest-high water inside homes to reach residents, many of them were elderly, as footage was revealed by CCTV recently.
In one scene broadcast by CCTV, rescuers were seen struggling for nearly an hour to free a man who was trapped behind a door by floodwater.
Meanwhile, in Dachong, a town located in southern Guangdong, a man managed to climb a tree to escape from rising water, and he was pulled to safety in an inflatable boat.
One of the hardest hit areas was the Baishuihe village in the Enshi prefecture.
