A 42 year old woman in China developed a serious 8cm ulcer in her oesophagus after eating some very hot foods that comprised of a hotpot too quickly.
Doctors shared more about how the food was likely between 80 to 90 degrees centigrade in temperature, which is far more than the temperature the delicate lining of the throat and oesophagus can safely tolerate.

Due to the fact that she was hungry during this meal, she swallowed her food whole and allowed it to cool down properly.
At the start, she only felt a mild chest tightness and tried to relieve the discomfort by drinking cold drinks. However, the pain got much worse the next day.

Medical tests showed later that major burns and ulceration in the upper oesophagus, along with bleeding inside the stomach.
