Tragic reports are speaking about a coast guard diver losing his life in search of the bodies of missing Italians who reportedly died while scavenging an underwater cave.
The group of five Italian divers is believed to have passed away while exploring a cave at a depth of nearly 50 meters in Vaavu Atoll on Thursday, as per Italy's Foreign Ministry. The recreational diving limit inside the Maldives is said to be 30 meters or 98 feet.
The country's presidential spokesperson says a member of the Maldavian National Defense Force passed away due to underwater decompression sickness after being transferred to a hospital in the capital.
The death just goes to show the difficulty of this mission, he revealed. Before, the rep shared how the searchers had done preparations based on their progress exploring the cave on Friday. Rough weather has constantly hampered all the rescue efforts.
