Five tourists, including a mother and her daughter, have passed away while scuba diving in the Maldives.

The group set out on a cave diving journey in the Vaavu Atoll, nearly 40 miles away from the capital, Male, on the morning of Thursday, May 14.

Sources revealed more about how they were traveling on the Duke of York yacht but never returned, as confirmed by media outlets.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Center received a report of missing divers at 1:45 pm local time on Thursday, as confirmed in a statement.

The divers are reported to have passed away while trying to explore caves at a depth of nearly 50 meters, as confirmed by the foreign ministry.

Authorities in the Maldives mentioned how it was believed to be the worst at sea incident in the nation's history.

Loved ones are calling for a more transparent investigation as they fear something really bad went on down there, as the manner of their deaths is so suspicious.
