A judge has shockingly ended the asylum claims linked to 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos, whose detention went viral after he became the symbol of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown in Minnesota.
He and his family are now being told to leave the US immediately, as per their attorney. While the family did issue an appeal against the decision, it could take months or even years before that would come into play, and the case would be reopened.
The news comes after an immigration court handed down the decision on February 19, but the family was only told about this matter yesterday. The family wants the case sent back to the immigration court to hear the merits of the family's asylum claim.
Such appeals could take months to even years, and if this family loses that appeal, they might be deported to Ecuador, which is their home country.
"Our concerns in this case are the speed with which the government has been moving," the family's lawyer mentioned. The agency added how Liam's dad entered the US illegally in December of 2024, but the lawyer confirmed that he did not carry out any crimes and entered the nation through legal means as an asylum seeker at a border crossing.
