A school bus carrying 58 elementary school students overturned in Texas, leaving children and families shaken and marking the second school bus crash involving the same school district in just three days.
The crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Sep 16, 2026, near the intersection of FM 1010 and County Road 347 in Cleveland. The bus was carrying 58 elementary school children when it rolled onto its side. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
Photos from the scene showed distressed children being helped away from the overturned bus. Cleveland Independent School District said all of the students were safely removed and given medical attention at the scene. They were later taken to a local hospital for evaluation as a precaution, and their parents were notified.
The district said it would conduct a full investigation into the crash and thanked transportation staff and emergency responders for their quick response. Officials also emphasized that student safety remained their highest priority.
The crash was especially concerning because it came just two days after another school bus accident involving Cleveland ISD students. On Monday, Sep 14 , a separate bus carrying 59 students from Cleveland High School and the Cleveland Ninth Grade Center came to rest on its side in a ditch on the same road.
Around 36 students from that earlier crash suffered minor injuries, including bumps and bruises, and were taken to local hospitals for treatment and evaluation. The driver was also checked by medical personnel.
The two crashes occurred about two miles apart, adding to concerns among parents about school transportation safety. One parent told KHOU 11 that seeing the scene made her question whether she felt comfortable having her own children ride the school bus.
Despite the frightening scenes, Cleveland ISD said there were no life-threatening injuries in either crash. The district described it as a difficult week for students, families and staff as officials worked to investigate both incidents.
The Sep 16 crash remains under investigation, with authorities working to determine what caused the bus to overturn.
