Several York College of Pennsylvania students were attacked outside their off-campus home after a large crowd gathered in the neighborhood during what authorities described as an ongoing street-racing incident.
The confrontation happened early Friday morning, September 11, on West Jackson Street in York, Pennsylvania. According to the students, a large group had gathered near their home and cars were involved in a street takeover before people began moving onto private property.
The students said they asked the group to leave their property, and the situation quickly turned violent. Several women were reportedly punched, kicked and dragged from the porch by their hair. One student told reporters she was surrounded by a large crowd and was knocked unconscious during the assault.
The students also said they had contacted police multiple times before the violence escalated. One account said the group made several 911 calls because they felt unsafe, with another call made after the street racing became more dangerous.
Police later said officers were dealing with a separate, ongoing critical incident at the time. When officers reached the West Jackson Street scene, the crowd had begun to disperse, and no immediate arrests were made. The department said the investigation remains active as detectives collect evidence and interview victims and witnesses.
Video from the incident has also circulated online, showing a large crowd gathered around the confrontation as some people recorded the attack on their phones. The footage has added to concerns among students and parents about safety in the neighborhood surrounding the college.
York College said the incident took place off campus and involved individuals who were not affiliated with the school. The college said it is working with York City officials and local law enforcement and is offering affected students the option of relocating to campus housing.
