Teen Girls Killed as Massive Truck Crushes Bicycle in NYC

A teenage girl was killed and another was injured after a truck struck the bicycle they were riding in New York City’s East Village.

The crash happened Friday afternoon near East 10th Street and Avenue D, according to authorities. The two girls were riding together when they were hit by the truck, sending both of them into the roadway.

One of the teenagers, 15, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The second girl was also taken to a hospital for treatment. Her condition was not immediately clear.

The deadly crash has drawn attention to safety concerns for cyclists and pedestrians in the busy Manhattan neighborhood. Police responded to the scene and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The incident comes as New York City continues to deal with serious crashes involving cyclists and other vulnerable road users. A bicycle can offer little protection when it comes into contact with a large commercial vehicle, particularly in crowded city streets.

Authorities have not indicated that the girls were doing anything unusual before the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine exactly how the truck collided with the bicycle and whether any violations played a role.

The death has left the victim’s family and community mourning a teenager whose life was cut short during what should have been an ordinary ride through the city.
