A visit to the Minnesota State Fair ended in a brutal assault for 45-year-old Sammy Kimbrough, who was attacked by a group of young men during the fair’s closing weekend.
According to the New York Post, Kimbrough said the incident began after he accidentally bumped into someone from the group. A verbal exchange followed, and the situation quickly turned violent as several young men began punching him.
Kimbrough was knocked to the ground and repeatedly stomped on during the attack. He suffered multiple fractures to his jaw along with several broken and dislodged teeth. The injuries were severe enough to require emergency reconstructive surgery at Regions Hospital. Doctors placed plates and screws in his jaw and wired it shut while he began the long recovery process.
Kimbrough spent two days in the hospital and is now facing extensive dental treatment in addition to continued recovery from his facial injuries. His fiancée, Heather Hoffman, described the attack as senseless and said the family wants those responsible to face consequences.
Authorities have confirmed that the assault took place, but no arrests have been made so far. Investigators are still working to identify the people involved in the attack.
The incident has also added to concerns surrounding violence at the Minnesota State Fair. Earlier this year, authorities had already taken steps aimed at preventing gang-related conflicts at the event after previous incidents raised safety concerns.
Kimbrough and his family are now focused on his recovery while hoping the people responsible for the attack are identified and brought to justice.
