A new national poll is revealing a significant shift in how voters view President Donald Trump’s economic policies, with a majority saying his policies have hurt the economy.
The NBC News poll, conducted from September 11 to 15 among 1,000 registered voters, found that 55% believe Trump’s policies have worsened economic conditions. By comparison, 26% said his policies have improved the economy, while 18% said they have not really affected it. One percent were unsure.
The findings come as voters continue to focus heavily on the cost of living. In the same survey, 28% identified inflation and the cost of living as the most important issue facing the country, making it the top concern among those surveyed.
Trump’s overall approval rating also fell to 41% among registered voters in the NBC poll, described as a second-term low. In March, 48% of voters had said Trump had hurt the economy, meaning the share holding that view has increased by seven percentage points since then.
The poll also found that voters were closely divided over which party would better handle the economy, with 39% choosing Democrats and 38% choosing Republicans. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
