A fundraiser connected to the Lindsay Clancy murder trial has rapidly grown after the case ended in a mistrial following a dramatic disagreement among jurors.
Clancy, a Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children in 2023, was on trial over whether she was criminally responsible for their deaths. Her defense argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.
After days of deliberations, the 12-person jury could not reach a unanimous decision. Eleven jurors were prepared to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity, while one juror, Michael P. Desronvil, remained convinced that she was criminally responsible. The deadlock resulted in a mistrial.
The juror's identity later became public, bringing intense attention and scrutiny to him and his family. His attorney has said Desronvil has faced harassment and threats following the trial and is currently staying in a secure, undisclosed location.
Amid the controversy, supporters launched a GiveSendGo fundraiser intended to help with expenses including security, legal costs and lost wages. The campaign initially set a $250,000 goal and reached that amount within four days before the target was increased to $300,000. Reports said the fundraiser had collected more than $285,000 by September 18.
Desronvil has also publicly defended his decision. In a statement released through his representative, he said he had no doubts about his conclusion and believed the physical evidence, witnesses and prosecution's case showed that Clancy knew what she was doing.
The case remains unresolved. Prosecutors have not announced whether Clancy will face another trial, with a hearing scheduled for September 29 to address the next steps.
